What's a 502??? Well I'm glad you asked.

A 502 Python is a 8.2 liter or 502ci (cubic inch) engine with Multiport Fuel Injection, purple wire covers and a really cool snake sticker on the intake manifold. Don't let the Junior High graphics fool you, this motor is much more than stickers and fancy wire covers.

The Python 502 by PCM is the most powerful engine ever to be placed in a production Ski/Boarding boat. It produces 435 horspower and 510 ft/lbs of torque. This "Beast" sports many Hi-Performance modifications, right from the factory. It features a roller cam, lifters and rockers....A wicked multi-port fuely setup that feeds the thirst of the Big Block, and to match the intake, the engine spits out it's exhaust through twin 4 inch exhaust ports that are "NOT" fed through any kind of muffler system. Why??? Two reasons....1) There "aint" no room cuz the 502 is rather large and 2)cuz it sounds awesome that way.

Oh, I can hear ya thinkin' "I bet that thing just gulps gas....what a waste!" Well, guess what. It doesn't. Well it doesn't if you use the boat like it should be used. Weighted to the gills for an enormous wake. It's simple really. The small blocks (the good ones) put out about 310-320 ft/lbs of torque as compared to the insane 510 ft/lbs of the 502. Then, remember that planing a boat is all about the torque, and when your pulling a rider at 22-23mph (or less for beginners) your maybe 5 mph over planing speed of the weighted boat which then requires torque to hold a smooth speed. What does it take to make torque??? GAS! And when your engine is under extreme load, trying to produce torque...it can use a lot of gas. Well, if I've got an engine that produces 65% more torque than a small block... my engine is not under an "extreme load"....or not to the extent that the small block is.

So, believe it or not....I use about the same amount of gas in my V-Drive 502 Super Air as I did when I had my Mid Engine AirNautique with a 351 small block. Don't forget that a Mid-Engine boat is much more fuel efficient than a V-drive boat. So, when all is said and done the BIg Block makes alot more sense than people might initially think.

Now for something totally cool.....do you know how rare it is to have a Python Powered Super Air??? Well....in '99 (the year of my Super Air) there were 11. That's right....11. If your wondering why, it's pretty simple. Correct Crafts upgrade cost for the Python was $6500. That's enough sticker shock to scare away most every one. Add to that the "misunderstood" fuel use scenario and your left with 11 rare and unique boats that are in a class all by themselves. If you have one, let us know and join Club 502. We'd love to hear about it.

Oh, and one more thing. Don't forget that the Big Block weighs about 250lbs more than it's Small Block counterparts. Then consider that all that extra weight is on the back of the boat where we are weighting our boats anyway, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that a Big Block Boarding Boat (B4) is the way to go! And remember, if you add to the performance package of the Python a really cool sticker and graffix package...well then guys like me who never grew up anyway are smilin' even more. Kick Ass performance and the looks to go with it. Hmmmm..... sounds like a Python. It'll squeeze out the competion.
